Eco-Responsible Cruising.

Catamarans are trending thank to their seafaring stability qualities combined with the vast lifestyle space they offer compared with their monohull counterparts. Unsurpisingly when Sunreef launched its first unit of their ‘Eco’ series, 80 Sunreef Power Eco, SÓL  at Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in September, it garnered a lot of attention.

Whenever you see “Eco” at the end of a Sunreef model, it means the vessel is powered using hybrid propulsion, meaning that it uses two or more sources of energy, electric and solar power, unlike the standard Sunreef models, which despite having solar panels relies on gas-fuelled motors as it’s the primary source of energy.

The Eco yacht series sets new standards for eco-cruising achieved through using lightweight materials, advanced electronics and smart energy management that utilize real-time data to make energy use more effective, and hybrid propulsion systems that utilize electric and solar power to achieve the company’s overarching mission: to produce more efficient and sustainable vessels.

80 Sunreef Power Eco ‘Sól’

The 80 Sunreef Power Eco SÓL is an ultra-modern vessel designed for extended offshore cruising, combining comfort and exceptional seaworthiness. Its namesake, SÓL, derives from the old Norse word for sun. Its copper-bronzed hull with strong sleek lines shines in the water like a shiny new penny.

When unoccupied, the new owners of SÓL will use it for sustainable yacht charters. A shrewd move since powercats penetrate the charter market, particularly in tropical waters where the low draft and wide beam is ideal for exploring gin-clear shallow waters, where you can drop anchor near an atoll without fear of grounding. The family love to travel and have a deep appreciation for the natural landscape, thus opting for an eco-friendly seafaring catamaran suitable for long oceangoing passages optimized to help conserve the environment will enable them to travel across the world with a clear conscience.

Solar-skinned, the composite-integrated panels just 1mm slim (one of the lightest systems in the world) harness sunlight as a source of energy and run along both sides of the hull and along the flat bimini top, covering a total of 200 square feet.

SÓL also boasts the industry’s largest battery bank in recreational yachting in crafts up to 80 feet, and it’s 30% lighter than the average e-motor system used in the yacht industry. The 990 kWh battery system powers all the amenities on board as well as the twin 360kW engines, the batteries allow for up to 300 nautical miles of cruising.

The electric-drive enables cruising in complete silence, with no fumes and no vibration, providing a serene experience at sea and connecting guests with nature.

SÓLs’ Custom-Made Layout Design

Custom-made to accommodate eight guests, there are four cabins on board comprising one king and three queen en suite staterooms. There is also space for a four-person crew.

The vegan interiors are furnished in naturally-sourced materials following a neutral color palette with light modern finishes providing a cohesive look and feel throughout the yacht. Non-toxic, silicon-based bottom paints over the hull provide efficient protection against marine growth.

The main saloon boasts an impressive lounging space and wet bar and opens onto the aft cockpit and bow terrace, where guests can enjoy a spa jacuzzi. Wraparound windows throughout provide uninterrupted seascape views.

SÓL’s aft cockpit opens into an external al fresco dining table for eight with 360-degree ocean views well protected from the elements. It also features a large day bed.

From the cockpit, guests can easily access the catamaran’s swim platform, which doubles as a tender garage with enough storage for various water toys, including Seabobs, e-bikes, and water skis.

The flybridge provides additional external space for SÓL’s guests to enjoy relaxation with a sizable c-shaped dining area, a bar, and oversized sun pads.

More 80 Sunreef Power Eco models are undergoing construction at Sunreef Yachts shipyard.
